Karratha Leisure Centre
Karratha, Western Australia
The civil components of the leisure centre involved the earthworks, drainage and a substantial component of roadworks (23,500m2). Included in the package were all the road features including ramps, bollards, signage, wheel stops, tactile paving and line marking.
This was an extremely busy site with building trades studiously working to complete the project. Overall the civil component of the works was pushed out until late in the program so that asphalt works could be completed as part of the last few items. This meant that not all sections could be completed at once with completed sections being handed over progressively to make sure that access and parking was always available. The intense pressure to meet the program was felt by all but ultimately all deadlines were met.
The flexibility and drive shown by VALMEC management and supervision meant that operational outcomes, although tough, were met along the way. VALMEC showed grit, determination and its flexibility during the execution of these works.
