Valmec's 'Happy Heart' Initiative
In line with October being National Safe Work Month, Valmec offered a free health initiative for staff called ‘Happy Heart’. ‘Happy Heart’ involved final year health degree students from Edith Cowan University attending Valmec’s Kewdale facility as well as Valmec’s metropolitan sites from 26 to 29 October, to provide confidential health assessments with the opportunity to ask questions regarding diet, exercise and lifestyle.
Participation in the assessments were voluntary, however all staff were encouraged to attend and in turn think more about their health. The main aim of this program was to help raise awareness about personal health and promote lifestyle choices that can lead to better health outcomes.
All results of the assessments were confidential. The program was well received with a large majority of the staff attending. Feedback on the initiative was positive with staff taking an interest in overall assessment findings and feedback received from the students. The program also helped with the professional development and practical experience of the ECU students who were a pleasure to engage with.
