Christmas at Valmec: The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal and the Manna Soup Kitchen

December 2016

Valmec proudly supported the local community this Christmas via the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal and the Manna Soup Kitchen.

In support of The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal, staff were invited to donate to a Christmas Toy Box by purchasing a gift and placing it the box unwrapped so it would allow families to choose the perfect gift for their loved ones.

The Salvation Army has been fighting poverty and social distress in Australia since 1880. Many people in our community face hardship such as hunger, homelessness, family violence, social isolation, addiction and unemployment. The Salvation Army helps more than one million Australians every year through their wide range of community services and are committed to assisting all people in need without regard to nationality, race, belief, sexuality, ability, or judgement of behaviour. Behind the immediate problem is often a more serious need that requires their help in working with people both short-term and long-term to provide hope for a bright future.

These gifts may be the only present a child receives this Christmas, so the kind donations from our staff will go a long way.

To Support the Manna Soup kitchen, staff were invited to purchase raffle tickets for a bunch of prizes also kindly donated by staff.

Beginning with a simple pot of homemade soup, Manna has become one of the leading volunteer driven charities in Western Australia serving the homeless and the vulnerable. Manna is a compassionate charitable organisation providing hope and dignity to the hungry, the lonely, the disadvantaged and the underprivileged in the community of Perth, Western Australia. Founded in 1996, by Bev and John Lowe, Manna now has over 200 volunteers that give their time on a regular basis to prepare and deliver consistent food services to those in need. Manna is primarily focused on the preparation and delivery of fresh meals every day to disadvantaged groups in our community.

With thanks to the generous donations from our staff (prizes and raffle ticket purchases), their contribution will feed 100 disadvantaged people, which will make a huge difference to our community, especially during this time which can be extremely difficult for some.

We would like to thank our kind staff for their support and generosity of two very worthy causes.
