Cancer Council's Pink Ribbon Day Fund Raiser
On Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon Day, Friday 23 October, Valmec hosted a morning tea to raise funds to support the Breast Cancer cause. All donations, big or small, help work towards breast cancer treatments and prevention, provide hope for more survivors and support for women that have been diagnosed with this terrible disease.
Sadly, most people will be affected by this illness – either through a family member, a friend, a work colleague, or being diagnosed themselves. Unfortunately the harsh statistics are:
- 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime; and
- 7 women die from breast cancer every day in Australia.
The Valmec team were ready to support this worthy cause, from selling fund raising merchandise and wearing “pink” high visibility shirts in the workshop, to taking time out to cook and bake for a fund raising morning tea.
This morning tea provided by generous Valmec staff members was available for a gold coin donation along with Pink Ribbon merchandise. All money raised went towards the goal of ‘zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030’.
$225 was raised from the sale of Cancer Council Pink Ribbon merchandise, with a further $1275 raised by staff donations matched by Valmec, donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
